Everyday Habits That Could Be Damaging Your Hair (and What to Do Instead)
Most of us don’t set out to damage our hair, but everyday habits can add up over time. The good news is that small shifts make a big difference.
Habit 1: Washing too often
Over-washing strips away natural oils that protect your hair and scalp. Try spacing washes out by an extra day and use a lightweight refresh spray or rinse in between.
Tip: Use a dry shampoo to keep hair feeling fresh in between washes.
Habit 2: Rough towel drying
Rubbing your hair with a towel can cause breakage and frizz. Instead, gently squeeze out excess water and wrap your hair in a soft cotton or microfiber towel.
Tip: If you want to keep it natural and low tox, still with a soft cotton wrap.
Habit 3: Brushing too harshly
Dragging a brush through tangles stresses your strands. Start at the ends and work your way up with a wide-tooth comb or detangling brush.
Tip: Resist the urge to brush your hair when it’s wet, it’s more vulnerable and prone to breakage when wet.
Habit 4: Skipping heat protection
Heat tools can quickly weaken hair if left unprotected. Always use a protective serum or spray before styling to reduce damage.

Habit 5: Ignoring scalp care
Healthy hair begins at the scalp. Regular cleansing, gentle exfoliation, and hydration all help create the right environment for growth.
