Perimenopause Hair Changes: What’s Happening and What Helps | BodFood
There’s usually a moment.
You notice your hair feels… different.
Maybe it’s just not quite the same as it used to be.
Maybe it’s a bit finer.
A bit drier.
Not sitting the way it once did without thinking about it.
And naturally, you start troubleshooting.
Is it the shampoo?
Have I overdone the heat?
Do I need something new?
Sometimes the answer is simpler.
Sometimes it’s perimenopause, hormones shifting, your body adjusting and doing its thing.
Hair Starts Behaving a Little Differently
During this stage, hormones shift.
At first is subtle… Just enough to change how things feel.
Hair can become a little finer at the root.
A little drier through the ends.
Sometimes it just stops cooperating in the same easy way it used to.
It’s usually subtle at first, but noticeable.
Your Scalp Joins In Too
This is the part most people don’t expect.
Your scalp is skin, so it reacts as well.
Some people notice a bit more dryness or sensitivity.
Others find their roots getting oilier more quickly. And the hairline… dryness or the other extreme of pimples around the hairline!
And occasionally, you get all at once, which feels unnecessarily complicated, overwhelming, but fairly on-brand for this phase of life.
It’s Not a “Fix Everything” Moment, even tho thats often our go-to as women
This is where things can go a bit off track.
The instinct is to do more.
More products.
More treatments.
More effort.
But hair at this stage usually responds better to a softer approach. And life in general, from my point of view.
A bit less force.
A bit more support. A bit more of anything that feels less busy and intense quiet franklyl!
Strength and Hydration Start Doing More Work
Hair can become a little more fragile through the lengths, which is why it can feel thinner even if nothing major has changed.
Supporting strength helps here.
Not heavy, coating hydration. Just enough to bring softness back so hair moves and sits properly again.
Small Adjustments Work Best
You don’t need to overhaul everything.
Usually it’s just a few minor shifts.
Gentler cleansing so the scalp stays balanced
Keeping heavy products away from the roots
Adding light hydration through the lengths
Being a bit kinder with heat and brushing
That’s often enough to bring things back into a better rhythm.
Where BodFood Can help Further
This is exactly where a balanced routine matters.
Gentle cleansing keeps the scalp comfortable without stripping it.
Ingredients like aloe help with hydration without flattening everything.
And a bit of strength through the lengths helps hair feel more like itself again.
If your hair feels different during perimenopause, it probably is.
Not worse. Just asking for something slightly different.
A few small adjustments usually go further than a full reset. Reach out to us on chat if you want to get recommendations for the best products to suit your needs or send us an email at hello@bodfood.com
