Why We Use a Blend of Science and Nature (Not Just One or the Other)

At BodFood, we love nature. We also love science.
And no, those two aren’t enemies.

In fact, when it comes to formulating clean, effective haircare, the magic happens when nature and science work together. That’s the sweet spot where our products live where botanical ingredients meet lab-tested performance, and salon-worthy results don’t come at the cost of your health or the planet.

Here’s why we take a balanced, blended approach to our formulations and why it works so well for your hair.

Nature Isn’t Always Enough (and That’s Okay)

Don’t get us wrong we’re obsessed with natural ingredients. You’ll find plenty of them in our bottles:

• Waratah, ginseng, and nettle extracts
  
  
• Organic oils like argan, avocado and flaxseed
  
  
• Coconut-derived surfactants and conditioners
  
  
• Plant-based humectants like glycerin and panthenol
  
  

But here’s the thing: not all natural ingredients are stable, safe, or suitable in their raw form.

Some:

• Don’t preserve well
• Have allergens or irritants
• Don’t rinse clean
• Can’t deliver the results your hair needs
  

So rather than rely only on what grows in the ground, we use science to enhance, refine, and stabilise our formulas while staying true to our clean, low-tox standards.

We Use Man-Made Ingredients… But Only the Ones That Make Sense

Yep. We said it.
Some of our ingredients are man-made, and we’re proud of that.

Why? Because the right lab-crafted ingredients can:

• Be more consistent and safer than some raw extracts
• Help formulas stay stable without harmful preservatives
• Deliver shine, slip, or softness without greasiness
• Rinse clean without leaving build-up on you or in the ocean

Take our polyquaterniums, for example. These conditioning agents help reduce frizz and breakage, and they’re biodegradable, non-sensitising and gentle when used correctly.

Or our fragrance system, a blend of essential oils and aroma compounds that are all certified safe by EcoMundo in France, meeting the strictest EU cosmetic standards.

We don’t use man-made ingredients to cut corners. We use them to make our products work beautifully without compromising your values.

• We don’t use harsh sulphates, parabens, or formaldehyde-releasing preservatives
• We don’t use non-water-soluble silicones in any wash-off products
• We don’t throw in trendy ingredients just for the label
• We don’t make “100% natural” claims if they’re not accurate
• And we absolutely don’t compromise performance to look more “green”
