The Softer Version of “Glass Hair” We’re Actually Into
Apparently we’re calling shiny hair “glass hair” again.
Which is funny, because most of us have been trying to get our hair shiny since about Year 8.
Still, the trend is everywhere right now. Ultra glossy. Super sleek. Not a strand out of place.
And look, we love shine. We really do.
But some of these routines feel like your hair would crack if you smiled too hard.
At BodFood, we’re a little more into the softer version.
We love hair that’s glossy, but still moves.
Smooth, but still feels like hair.
Healthy-looking, not heavily coated.
Real Shine Starts Earlier Than Styling
Most people think shine comes from the finishing product.
But a lot of it actually starts with how your hair is washed.
When hair gets stripped too aggressively, the outer layer roughens slightly. That’s when hair starts looking fluffy instead of glossy, even when it’s technically “clean.”
Gentler cleansing tends to leave hair looking smoother and calmer naturally.
Hydration Makes a Bigger Difference Than Oil
This one surprises people.
Hair that’s properly hydrated reflects light beautifully. It sits better, feels softer, and has that healthy swing to it.
Aloe vera, panthenol, those kinds of ingredients quietly do a lot of heavy lifting here.
Too much oil, on the other hand, can sometimes just make hair look tired.
The Goal Isn’t Perfect Hair
Honestly, the nicest hair usually has a little softness to it.
A few natural bends.
Movement through the ends.
A bit of life.
The super rigid, ultra-lacquered look might photograph well, but day to day? We’ll take healthy and touchable every time.
Small Things That Help More Than You’d Think
Not washing with scorching hot water
Being a bit gentler when brushing wet hair
Letting your hair air-dry sometimes
Sleeping on silk or satin
Getting regular trims before the ends start giving up
None of it groundbreaking.
But together, it changes the feel of your hair quite a lot.
Less Build-Up, More Shine
This is the part people often miss.
Hair tends to shine more when there’s less sitting on it.
Too many layers of heavy products can dull things down instead of enhancing them.
A lighter approach usually works better long-term.
The kind of shine we love most doesn’t look overly styled.
It looks healthy. Easy. A little sunlit. This is starting to sound like a holiday I really want and need now…
What we love is for the hair to look like you’ve just come back from a long lunch near the ocean and your hair happened to dry perfectly on the way home.
